#SQLSatLA Team use of the various Social Media channels

Writer's picture: Steve RezhenerSteve Rezhener

The main idea is to flood most media channels with some quasi-fresh content in little to no time. We use the following freemium services to automate posting to social media platforms:

· https://www.postfity.com/ – automates posts to LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, GooglePlus

· https://www.hootsuite.com/ – automates posts to LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, GooglePlus, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube

· https://www.mailchimp.com – sends emails and automates posts to Facebook and Twitter

· https://tweetdeck.twitter.com – automates posts to Twitter

· Gramblr (Windows 10 App) – uploads photos to Instagram

Media Channels that we are currently using:

We use SQL Saturday in LA on Facebook to register the event, pre-conference and also to post any occasional email communication that goes to registered attendees.

We use SQL Saturday in LA on Twitter to publish submitted session info and any occasional email communication that goes to registered attendees using #SQLSatLA. Additionally, we are using @SteveRezhener, @SQLMalibu, @LASQLBootCamp to retweet and like.

We use a LinkedIn SQL Saturday in Los Angeles group, but we are also using Steve’s personal LinkedIn profile to post publish submitted session info and any occasional email communication that goes to registered attendees. We also use LinkedIn publishing platform to spread the word with articles about the event, sessions, sponsors, and speakers.

We use YouTube to host any video content taken from SQL Saturday in Los Angeles event. So far, we have 6 videos from 2017 SQL Saturday in Los Angeles taken by VDMS Uplynk service and featured on #SQLSatLA on YouTube. We plan to add more content in 2019.

No good photo is left behind on Instagram. We use SQL Saturday in LA on Instagram to store and share all the event photos. We have 130+ from 2017 SQL Saturday in Los Angeles and 130+ from 2018 SQL Saturday in Los Angeles events.

Given the fact that Pinterest platform is predominantly used for visual browsing of flashy images, we use it to share all the cool stuff. We share sponsor logos and swag/raffle photos on SQL Saturday in LA on Pinterest. We have almost 100 pins combined from both 2017 and 2018 SQL Saturday in Los Angeles events.

Since Reddit is mostly textual based, we are using it as another avenue for a textual marketing. In 2018, we used that platform to promote pre-conference and SQL Saturday in LA event itself using SQL Saturday in LA on Reddit. In 2019, we are planning to use it to republish all the submitted sessions abstracts.

In 2018, we used GooglePlus platform to promote the event, and pre-conference sessions under SQL Saturday in LA on Google+ . Due to uncertainty from Google about the future of Google Plus, we stopped using this platform.
